Masala Shalgam (Spicy Turnips)

Ingredients :
Turnips (Shalgam) : 1/2 kg (cubed)
Onion : 1 (large)
Tomatoes : 2 (medium)
Red chilly powder - 3tsp (preferably kashmiri mirch)
Turmeric - 1 pinch
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Fennel (saunf) powder - 2 tsp
Cinnamon - 1/4 tsp
Ginger powder (sund/shonth) - 1/2 tsp
Garlic - 4 cloves (finely chopped)
Clove (laung) - 2-3
Black Cardamom (badi elaichi)- 1-2  (ground)

Salt - to taste
Oil - 3 tbsp 

Procedure :  
  • Heat oil in a pan and saute the turnips till they turn light brown. Keep aside.
  • Now heat oil in a frying pan & add cumin seeds, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves and garlic.
  • Add chopped onions and saute till light brown. Then add the chopped tomatoes and the rest of the spices (ginger powder, fennel powder, red chilly powder, turmeric and salt)
  • Add the turnips and stir on low flame.
  • Cover with a lid and cook for 15-20 minutes till the turnips are soft.
  • Serve hot.

But as usual I loved this recipe too :D
Now living with a few Hyderabadi's so eagerly waiting to try their food ;)
